Jinergy Ushers in N-type Transformation with Dual-drive of Technology and Marketing

SNEC 2023 once again brings the PV industry to a new height. Standing on the turning point of P-type to N-type, the new and old enterprises converge here and start a new round of competition. As one of the established PV enterprises, Jinergy revealed that the construction of its new 4GW N-type TOPCon cell+ module production line in Shanxi Province will be completed and will go into operation in this July. In this wave of N-type expansion wave, Jinergy has walk in the forefront by virtue of its strength in technology accumulation.

 

In its years of technology R&D journey, Jinergy is not the most famous brand in the PV industry. However, in the journey of China’s energy transition, Jinergy has made out an epic of the integrative development and iterative upgrading of traditional energy and new energy, and been a model of state-owned manufacturing enterprises under fierce market competition.

 

Technology-based Development

 

In the PV industry, technological threshold is not a positive term. The influx of large number of capital and enterprises makes the competition threshold in the PV industry drop again and again. However, in the eyes of Dr. YANG Liyou, General Manager of Jinergy, the PV industry has always been based on technology, and Jinergy has been adhering to this concept.

 

As is known to all that there is always dispute on the TOPCon or the HJT as the ultimate technology route for N-type in the PV industry. In fact, Jinergy is a leader in the mass production of HJT cell technology in China. In May 2017, Jinergy’s 100MW HJT mass production line, as the first one in China, was put into operation. Under the leadership of Dr. YANG Liyou, Jinergy has been active in the forefront of promoting cost reduction in HJT structures. At present, Jinergy’s HJT cost reduction has been deeply involved in lamination, conductive silver paste, ITO target material, texturing additives and so on. In the future, the mass production cost of HJT will be further promoted to be even with PERC.

 

While maintaining the synchronous promotion of HJT technology R&D investment and mass production, Jinergy made the decision to take the lead in scale expansion of TOPCon this year. In YANG’s view, technology should not be a paranoia, and all technological innovations would ultimately contribute to the process of technological development. At present, TOPCon’s industry chain is more mature, so this is the best time for TOPCon, and “products ultimately aim to realize customer value”. However, from the perspective of technology, the cell structure, performance and power generation gain of HJT are still superior.

 

In the following one or two years, Jinergy will mainly focus on the mass production of TOPCon, and continue to invest in R&D and breakthrough of HJT. YANG stressed that, “R&D and mass production are two stages, and the timing of mass production depends on the market opportunity. However, we should always realize that technology serves the market, and products with higher cost performance and higher customer value are the goal of technology and R&D.”

 

Jinergy has always adhered to technology-based layout with advanced PV technology as the core competitiveness and synchronous development of TOPCon, HJT, Tandem and XBC technologies, and continued to facilitate the industrialization of advanced technologies, in order to address the pain-point problems in practical application, develop more valuable green and low-carbon products, create superior and reliable products, create a holistic N-type product ecology, provide more cost-effective PV products for various application scenarios and meet the diversified market needs.

 

For future technology trend, YANG said frankly, “The cost reduction of HJT is progressing. At present, the industry also has a certain breakthrough in the slurry cost reduction while the copper plating solution is becoming mature gradually. In the future, Jinergy will continue to focus on laminationto optimize HJT cost reduction. At the same time, the theoretical efficiency of HJT+ perovskite laminatedtandem cell can break 33%, and laminated tandem cell will become the key target after N-type cell.”

 

Dual-drive of Technology and Marketing

 

In such competitive PV industry, Jinergy, as a provincial state-owned enterprise, has never given up the development of marketing channels. Instead, Jinergy focuses on the pain-point problems in current market, and has created two-way product channels of standard products and customized products. “At present, foreign customers are more inclined to purchase customized products, including lightweight and all-black modules. Jinergy has also developed high-reliability modules for seaborne PV projects”, told YU Shiwei, Overseas Sales Director of Jinergy, “Jinergy began to explore overseas markets in 2017, and was mainly engaged in ground projects in the early stage. In 2021, Jinergy fully extended the distribution channels. Now, overseas shipments account for about one-third of the Company.”

 

On the other hand, YU Shiwei admitted that in the past two years of distribution channel promotion, Jinergy’s endorsement of state-owned enterprise will be of great benefit to product sales. “There are new entrants into the industry, so price competition is inevitable. In such fierce market competition, low price can help gain some market share in the short term, but in the long term, customers will identify which products are more reliable. Jinergy’s high-standard requirements for product quality has helped it win the recognition and trust of customers in the long-term market operation.”

 

At present, Jinergy’s overseas markets are mainly concentrated in Southern Europe, Australia, South America, etc., among which HJT modules are mainly exported to Southern Europe and Australia. “High-priced modules are more favored in overseas market, but more important is the guarantee of product quality. As a state-owned enterprise, Jinergy is well recognized by customers for our pursuit of product quality”, added YU Shiwei.

 

Jinergy always adheres to the customer service concept of quality product supply and quality service upgrade. Jinergy has provided customers with efficient product supply, rapid priority services and simplified and improved procedures through the three guarantees of product ecology, customer centralization and order intensification.

 

However, as one of the few state-owned enterprises that has engaged in the photovoltaic industry for several years, it not only tests the strength and determination of Jinergy, but also the responsibility of its parent company Jinneng Group in the energy transition.
