JINERGY Witnesses Transformation of Photovoltaic Industry

1958: China developed the first c-Si.

1975: Application of solar cell fell from space to the ground.

1999: Construction of China’s first 3MW poly solar cell and application system demonstration project, raising the curtain of China’s solar industrialization.

From a Follower to an Independent Leader

It took us nearly 4 decades to reach industrialization from research and development. At this stage, China is still not able to “manufacture” PV product. Due to underproduction and high price, solar cell is mostly used to supply power for satellites. However, like aerospace workers who aspire to explore oceans and stars, PV R&D staffs consciousness for research and development, as well as industrialization, of new energy technologies are awakening.

In the 21st century, the release of related policies at home and abroad has driven the development of global PV industry. PV manufacturing in China “started practical application after profound learning” and shaped a large scale quickly by utilizing overseas advanced technology, equipment, capital, and market. In a word, it took China over 10 years to turn into a real manufacturing power from foundational industrialization. At this stage, China’s photovoltaic industry showed great production capacity. However, the upstream of China’s photovoltaic industry was still lack of manufacturing techniques, and the downstream power plant technology. The entire industry was basically concentrated on the development of photovoltaic modules. Despite the rapid expansion of production, 90% of raw materials were imported, 90% of products exported to Europe and North America, and 90% of core technologies not in our hands. How to enhance technology while lowering cost per kilowatt hour of power generation to boost domestic demand is another difficulty to photovoltaic workers.

On the occasion of the transformation of the photovoltaic industry in 2013, Jinneng Clean Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (“JINERGY” or “Company) officially stepped into the photovoltaic manufacturing sector. The Company started HJT pilot plant test project in 2015 and turned into the first Chinese manufacturer to achieve mass production of HJT technology later. In 2019, JINERGY’s mass production efficiency of HJT cells reached 24.73%. Again in 2019, JINERGY was selected by BNEF as Global Tier 1 PV Module Supplier, driving the innovative and independent development of China’s PV industry with practical actions. In 2021, JINERGY worked with upstream and downstream enterprises to build a new ecology. For instance, it cooperated with Jinchen Company to develop the first microcrystalline HJT PECVD processing equipment in China, expediting the localization of HJT equipment in China effectively. After 10-year’s sharpening, JINERGY has turned into a leading explorer of high-quality upgrading of China’s PV manufacturing industry from a module manufacturer.

Technical Upgrading Boost Full Transformation of Electricity Market

The installed capacity of new photovoltaic power plants in 2021 in China was 54.9GW, comprising 12.5 times of that in 2012; and the total installed capacity reached 308GW. Both the new capacity and the total capacity ranked at the top worldwide. Speaking from the industrial manufacturing and benefiting by the proposal of national strategic goals of “carbon neutrality and peak carbon emission”, and the driving forces in domestic and overseas markets, demands for installed PV modules exploded, China’s PV industry scaled up in a full scale and development of photovoltaic technologies reached breakthroughs frequently.

In terms of silicon wafer, there is a remarkable trend towards larger and thinner size. In 2012, there were mainly 125mm and 156mm mono silicon wafers; and in 2021, the proportion of 182mm and 210mm big-size wafers increases rapidly to 45%. Benefited by the iterative upgrading of N-type cell technology, wafers are getting thinner and thinner rapidly. The thickness of mainstream wafers reduced from 175μm in 2021 to 165μm in 2022. In particular, that of the mass-produced N-type wafers and cells basically reached 150μm. Keeping pace with the era, JINERGY has accomplished the technical renovation of production line for 182mm wafers, which were well received in foreign markets once they were released and sold to Southeast Asia, Europe and other important PV markets. At the same time, JINERGY has been devoted to study the thinning technology. The experimental result proved that, in the premise of same efficiency, JINERGY HJT cell’s wafer reduces from 150μm to 100μm, contributing to reducing the consumption of silicone material per module and the cost of wafer, further reduce the cost per kilowatt hour of power generation, and create higher gains for customers.

In terms of modules, the power of mainstream modules has been lifted from 245W in 2012 to above 450W in 2021, with more and more application developed. JINERGY PERC series modules range from 355W to 675W, which is the best developed power range in the market currently. With flexible solutions, they are widely applied on large-size above-ground power plants, distributed, and household projects. JINERGY adapts to the industrial development concept of  launches full-range products to satisfy different installed capacity demands. Enhanced by advanced technologies, JINERGY modules are able to maintain high-quality power generation performance under all kinds of severe conditions, turning JINERGY into an outstanding Chinese PV module manufacturer.

Benefiting by the unceasing progress of photovoltaic technology, improvement of cell module efficiency, shaping of scale economies effect and reduction of raw material cost, the cost per kilowatt hour of photovoltaic power generation in China has been dropped rapidly and the economic efficiency of photovoltaic power generation improved remarkably. In 2012, the cost per kilowatt hour of photovoltaic power generation was higher than RMB 0.8/kilowatt hour and the on-grid price of PV power generation in all provinces except Tibet was determined as RMB 1.15/kilowatt hour; and in 2021, the cost per kilowatt hour of photovoltaic power generation has been reduced to lower than RMB 0.3/kilowatt hour. The electricity market in China is experiencing an all-sided transformation introduced by photovoltaic new energy, as a result of the persistent technological innovation by technology-driven enterprises like JINERGY to keep challenging the ceiling of photovoltaic power generation, providing end users withmore affordable and more environment-friendly green and clean electricity and leading the inclusive development of green electricity market.

From a follower to a leader, and from self-upgrading to industrial transformation, every step of JINERGY leads the industry and falls on the essential point. For instance, HJT, PERC and AI-BSF constitute a remarkable chapter of the high-quality development of China’s PV industry and witness the rise of a powerful industrial nation. Standing at a new starting point, JINERGY shoulders the development responsibility of a state-owned enterprise , leads the efforts to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, develops technologies to build a powerful nation, works hard on energy transformation, facilitates China’s photovoltaic industry to shape a carbonless future, and create another brilliant decade.
