Jinergy facilitates the N-type technology iteration and upgrade in the industry

On July 20, Wang Jilei, Director of HJT R&D, Jinneng Clean Energy Technology Ltd. (“Jinergy” or “Company”) delivered a speech themed by Mass Production and Metallization Technology of High-efficiency HJT Solar Cell at the “8th Solar Cell Paste and Metallization Technology Forum” hosted by ASIACHEM, an authoritative media in China’s photovoltaic industry. Andy Wang shared the latest progress of cost reduction and efficiency improvement for HJT technology, which would facilitate the N-type technology iteration and upgrade in the industry.

According to incomplete statistics, the production of N-type solar cells has expanded to about 50GW in 2022, and the industry has accelerated the layout trend to upgrade from P-type to N-type. Among the N-type technology routes, HJT technology, as a future technology with more development potential, has more room for theoretical efficiency improvement. At present, leading enterprises are reducing the production cost of HJT by means of silver lowering technology, thin section and etc. When HJT cost is equal to PERC cost, its high efficiency advantage will be highlighted, thus completing the iteration and upgrade of cell technology.

Andy Wang introduced that Jinergy had carried out systematic evaluation and verification on all aspects of cost reduction, and developed a feasible and systematic cost reduction solution. First, it focuses on the silicon wafer thinning technology. Experimental results show that under the premise of the same efficiency, it will be beneficial to reduce silicon consumption and silicon wafer cost when decreasing the silicon wafer thickness of the HJT cell from 150μm to 100μm. In terms of metallization, Jinergy has developed a substantial cost reduction roadmap. By metallization graphic design, new paste development, and application of silver and copper materials, the paste cost can be controlled at the level of RMB 0.02 /W higher than PERC cost.

Cost reduction and efficiency enhancement are carried out simultaneously. Jinergy has conducted in-depth and systematic technical research on the main parameters of electrical performance (such as Voc, Isc and FF, etc.), and carried out optimization and innovation in various aspects, including raw materials, technical parameters, cell principles, equipment performance, new technology and equipment development, workshop environment, staff’s operating skills and more. At present, the Company’s average efficiency of mass production has increased from 22.5% to 24.7%. With the gradual release of reserve technology, the efficiency of Jinergy is expected to reach 25.5% in 2023.
